3rd Annual Maldives Whale Shark Festival 2015 – Raising Awareness

Organised by the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP), the 3rd annual Maldives Whale Shark Festival will highlight the need for conservation of whale sharks as well as other marine species that form an integral part in the rich marine biodiversity of the country. Visitors planning to attend the festival or even set off on diving expeditions in order to see whale sharks in their natural habitats can consider staying at resorts in Maldives such as Maafushivaru Maldives. The Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme which focuses on studying whale sharks as well as getting communities involved in helping in conservation efforts, organises the Whale Shark Festival which will be held on the Saturday nearest to International Whale Shark Day; this year’s festival will take place on 29th August. Activities that one can expect to find during the event include hosting creative workshops for communities, promoting awareness on conservation and showcasing Maldivian culture as well.
