A 70-Year-Old Thai Street Food Vendor Just Won a Michelin Star – Aunty Jay Receives International Recognition

Thai foodies are all too familiar with the culinary powerhouse that is ‘Aunty Jay’s’. The 70-year old veteran cook has been an icon for a long time now, due to two particular things. These would be her sensational cuisine and her eccentric persona. The prior involves indulgent portions of dishes centred around noodles, soups, curries, and seafood. She prepares these dishes wearing ski-goggles in order to protect her eyes from the hot oils being sloshed around in the various woks.

Jay Fai accepted her award dressed in a typical white chef’s outfit. Although her restaurant is classified as a street food type eatery, her cuisine is quite recognized for its quality and matches the standards of many elite restaurants in Silom Bangkok within entities such as Anantara Sathorn Bangkok Hotel.
