A Unique Travel Experience for Chinese Tourist – Opening up Military Facilities to Chinese Tourists

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) have decided to open military facilities to attract more tourists from China, as part of an effort to showcase the country’s modern development and new-look. Officials from TAT have requested the Thai navy to provide access to warships, training camps and firing ranges for Chinese free independent tourists (FIT) to experience. An estimated 60-70% of Chinese tourists to Thailand fall into the FIT category, while 30-40% are tour groups. Most Chinese travellers are leisure tourists who seek luxury accommodation, like the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, for example, one of the Chiang Rai Hotels. According to TAT, these tourists rarely engage in outdoor activities, but the new projects are hoping to improve the quality of activities by providing more tourists attractions which highlight Thai identity.
