Anantara and AVANI Hotels say no to Plastic Straws in 2018 – A Christmas Present to the Environment

In a decision that will definitely come as a shock to the world of travel and hospitality, both Anantara and AVANI Hotels & Resorts, who are part of Minor Hotels, have announced their intent to discontinue the use of plastic straws. The decision was made in December 2017 and came into effect in all Asian properties on the 1st of January 2018. All other properties would be effectively cleansed of plastic straws by the end of 2018.

The hotel chain intends to replace plastic straws with those made by bamboo, and already, one of the properties in Sri Lanka, Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, have added a plot of bamboo to their garden. This will make them the first among Tangalle hotels to take part in such an environmentally-beneficial initiative.
