Angkor Wat Wins ArchaeoMadness – ‘Symbol of Cambodia’ Crowned Top Site

Beating over 30 archaeological sites in a single elimination tournament, Angkor Wat was crowned as the ArcheoMadness Champion of the year 2014. Introduced this year as an interactive and entertaining way to count down the days until International Archaeology Day (held annually on the third Saturday in October), the competition had participants voting each day for their favorite archaeological site. The largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat is a must see if you are staying in a boutique hotel Siem Reap such as the Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa. The monument dating as far back as the 12th Century is rich in the intricate detailed Khmer architecture and is a representation of Mount Meru, the home of the gods. The temple is of such high importance that it has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag.
