Asian Surfing Championship – Riding the Waves in Maldives

Bringing the thrills of surfing to the Maldives, the Asian Surfing Championship recently concluded the Maldives Open 2014 which gave surfers from around the world a chance to showcase their skills. Held from September 4th to 7th at Lohis Point, this Grade 3 surfing tournament also featured a bodyboarding competition as well.

While the 2015 event is being eagerly anticipated, the 2014 edition saw 56 surfers competing in the tournament, representing 9 countries in total. The Maldives Open 2014 featured three categories, namely the men’s and women’s open and the bodyboarding category which was won by Garut Widiarta, Rina Kitazawa and Gavin Botha respectively. The third such international surfing event held in the Maldives, the Asian Surfing Championship promises to attract more surfers and offer more fun on the waves next year too.
