Bangkok Gears up for Songkran While Thai Government Extends Festival Period

The Thai New Year known as “Songkran” falls on April each year and as the country’s capital Bangkok gears up for the festival, news was recently announced that added to the anticipation; the Thai cabinet has approved a motion to extend the festival period by a day. The original Songkran holiday period was expected to be from 13th to 16th April, though now it will begin a day earlier, on 12th April.

One of the reasons for this extension is to give people more time to visit their families in other parts of the country, while it is expected to encourage tourism as well. One of the key highlights of Songkran is its associated water festival where people splash water on each other. The Thai capital is one of the best places to experience such aspects of Songkran and those staying at a Siam hotel in Bangkok including the likes of Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel can look forward to much merriment.
