Celebrating the Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai – Water Filled Festivities

The traditional New Year festival of Thailand, the Songkran Festival, was celebrated with many festivities in the Northern Province of Chiang Mai from 13th to 15th April 2019. Known for its cleansing rituals and of course, characteristic water fights, the festival featured a range of events that were within easy reach of centrally located hotels in Chiang Mai. Sacred rites were conducted at various local temples, while Tha Phae Gate, within a six minute drive from Anantara Chiang Mai Resort, was amongst the places where a variety of festivities were held.

The Songkran celebrations in Chiang Mai are amongst the largest in the country and gave both locals and foreigners a chance to ring in the New Year with fun water splashing too. Cultural performances, Buddha statue processions, Thai folk singing and alms-giving ceremonies were amongst the highlights of the Songkran Festival held here.
