Chinese New Year in Thailand and Koh Samui – The Year of the Dog!

The Chinese New Year this time around saw up to 888,472 foreigners visit Thailand this year. A total of 304,192 were Chinese tourists, which was an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous year. The week between February 15th to the 21st saw almost B15.978 billion in tourist receipts generated by Chinese visitors.

In anticipation of the staggering number of tourists, the government of Thailand put many procedures in place along with having added personnel to minimize any hassle; this included volunteers providing information to Chinese tourists at airports and hotels along with interpreters to process visas on arrival. Security too was increased along with routinely conducted checks on water transport. During the festival period, visitors stayed at many destinations around the country including at Chaweng resorts in Koh Samui home to the likes of Anantara Lawana Koh Samui Resort amongst other properties belonging to international hospitality brands.
