Chinese Tourists to Splash Out B200m on Koh Samui – Positive Effects of the Golden Week

The recent national holiday period in China which is approximately a week-long saw a huge influx of Chinese visitors to Koh Samui. Known as the Golden Week period in China, this October holiday time also led to an increase in the amount of money spent by Chinese visitors with an expected figure of around 200 million baht. According to the vice-chairman of the Tourism Promotion Association on Koh Samui, Senee Phuvasetthavorn, many of these visitors spend lavishly. This includes staying at a luxury Samui resort or hotel on the island which is home to well known brands such as Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort. This Thai island is, in fact, becoming a very popular destination in the country for Chinese tourists with visitor numbers up 50% in 2016 alone when compared to 2015.
