Cockerel Fringe Festival 2017 – A Gathering of Fresh Talent

In its first year, the Cockerel Fringe Festival in Sri Lanka gathered a number of talented young authors, poets and skilled artists and provided each of them a platform to showcase their talent. The event also served as a networking platform where artists and writers were able to connect with publishers and producers. The event sponsor Dom Mee is an explorer and a writer based in Galle while the event curator (poet) Grace Wickramasinghe was shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize in 2016.

Held at the Mercmarine Training Residential Waterside Training Centre situated near the elegant Galle Fort, the Cockerel Fringe Festival 2017 drew a crowd of literary and art enthusiasts some of whom were frequent beach holiday guests staying at the many hotels in Unawatuna. The gala festival showcased the talents of many stand-up comedians, talented musicians, several painters, photographers and much more. If you’re interested in witnessing the festivities next year there are plenty of hotels in Sri Lanka’s south coast such as CoCo Bay Unawatuna where you can stay.
