Deepavali celebrations in Little India – A colour filled festival

Deepavali in Singapore is celebrated on a grand scale with preparations being made several weeks ahead. Even on the day before the festival, the streets of Little India become so crowded with people doing their last-minute spice and clothes shopping. Thus, the streets are crowded to the extent where eventually roads will be closed.

The police warn the public that they should be more observant since crimes of theft are very likely to occur during these few days. The roads of Little India are definitely worth exploring on the day of the festival. Hotels in Bugis area in Singapore the likes of Park Hotel Farrer Park and others are filled with tourists. Visitor find the lit-up streets to be a magical sight with flashes of colour in every direction! However, most shops will be closed on this day in Little India.
