Deepavali, also known as Diwali, is one of the most popular celebrations in Asia, and one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism. It is an official holiday in many countries, such as India, Singapore, Fiji, and Sri Lanka.

One of the best places to experience Deepavali in Sri Lanka is Jaffna, where Hinduism is particularly prominent. During this time, Jaffna hotels will experience a huge surge in bookings, so it’s best to make bookings in accommodation such as FOX Resorts Jaffna in advance.

The purpose of this celebration is to commemorate the victory of good over evil and is done in a variety of way like wearing new clothes, oil baths, and visiting temples. Fireworks are also very common, but the most iconic aspect of Deepawali is the gathering of people on the street to throw coloured powders at each other, but this is rare in Sri Lanka.
