Enjoying More Days to Celebrate Songkran in 2019 – An Extended New Year Holiday

Thailand’s traditional New Year Festival known as “Songkran” recently drew to a close as locals enjoyed an extra day to celebrate. Typically the Songkran holiday covers the period between 13th and 15th April. However, this year since 13th April fell on a Saturday, the Thai government decided to approve a proposal of the holiday being extended to 16th April which was applicable to all government officials.

A time that many Thais in the city head home to their villages, Songkran is typically marked by a water festival which features the splashing of water on each other. Friendly water fights are common during this period and are particularly popular in the country’s capital. Those who stayed at city properties the likes of Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel had the chance to get involved in such Songkran activities which were amongst the most fun things to do Bangkok in April.
