Considered to be one of the most beautiful processions in all of Southeast Asia, the Esala Perehara is held every year in Kandy, Sri Lanka in the month of August. The parade is celebrated with great panache to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha and the four guardian gods Vishnu, Natha, Kataragma, and Pattini. Traditionally the veneration was held to beseech the gods for blessings to reap a bountiful harvest.

The perehara which is made up of dancers, acrobats, fire breathers and a procession of majestic elephants is conducted through the streets and is a sight to see come dusk. The tentative dates for the event are set for the 16th to the 27th of August 2018. Those who are travelling around Sri Lanka can charter a flight by many a domestic air carrier such as Cinnamon Air to visit the city during this time period.
