Experts are Seeking to Educate Tourists on Preserving the Precious Site of Ayutthaya

The old capital of Thailand and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ayutthaya is one of the most popular attractions not just for foreigners, but locals too; special tours and Bangkok river cruise options the likes of Anantara Cruises give travellers a chance to truly explore this historic attraction. However, the increase in visitors, which is credited to the immense popularity of a period TV series known as Bupphesanniwat (Love Destiny), has led to a number of problems such as a rise in littering and even ancient bricks being taken from the site as souvenirs.

In order to combat these issues and help preserve this heritage site, officials and academics came together recently for a brainstorming session at a seminar titled “Ayodhaya 4.0 Towards Sustainable Tourism”. Several measures are being implemented in order to preserve the park; these include making people aware of the importance of preserving this heritage site, an increase in staff to monitor visitor activity and the imposing of fines and possible one month imprisonment for severe offences like damaging historic sites.
