A public service initiative which saw the participation of the nation’s youth, “Gammadda” commenced in Sigiriya recently. Launched on 21st July 2018, this project features volunteers, including a large number of students, who band together to help in a worthy cause focused on the nation’s upliftment. This “V Force” as they are known, began with a clean-up operation at one of the country’s most iconic and historic attractions, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress; located within each reach of those staying at a hotel in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka and around 25 minutes from Amaya Lake Dambulla, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true cultural treasure.

As part of the Gammadda initiative, students from the Sri Jayewardenepura and Moratuwa universities joined forces to help in a clean-up operation atop Sigiriya Rock as well as at the Northern Entrance Road. Under the supervision of the Department of Archaeology and the Central Cultural Fund, the volunteers also helped in carrying bricks set aside for renovation purposes at the Rock Fortress.
