Indian tourists to Sri Lanka could reach 1 million in 2020 – Tourism in Sri Lanka

With approximately 400,000 Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka annually, there is no doubt that India is Sri Lanka’s largest tourism sector that contributes to the economy of the country. According to Prema Cooray, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, there is a possibility that this figure could hit 1 million tourists by 2020. Furthermore, he stated that a group of 200 representatives from the Indian travel trade are expected to arrive in Colombo for a travel convention. Many tourists who travel to Sri Lanka base themselves in coastal area accommodation such as hotels in Kalutara to get the best out of this all-season-destination. Hotels the likes of Turyaa Kalutara are amongst the options worth considering.

Addressing the two-day conference held at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, Mr Cooray said that there’s a big demand for wedding in this paradise island and it brings more income to the country.
