Jetwing Yala Wins at PATA Wild Asia Awards – Sustainable Practices in Action

In recognition for its efforts to conserve energy and the environment, Jetwing Yala was awarded the prestigious “Best in Resource Efficiency” accolade at the Wild Asia Awards held recently. Part of the PATA Travel Mart 2015, these awards highlight those in the industry who have excelled in areas such as energy conservation and adopting sustainable management policies. The only hotel or resort in Sri Lanka to have garnered such an accolade at this year’s Wild Asia Awards, Jetwing Yala, one of the relatively new hotels in Yala was honoured with this title due to its efforts and practices that looked to minimize environmental impact by way of efficient water, energy and waste management as well as through sustainable design. Apart from being home to the island’s biggest privately opened solar park, the hotel has adopted several initiatives including onsite treatment of waste water, recycling of organic waste and energy conservation measures such as utilising LED lighting, having a solar hot water system and making use of a biomass boiler.
