Kataragama Perahera in Sri Lanka –Waves of Colours and Wonderment

A vibrant festival procession that travels through the streets of the holy city of Southern Sri Lanka, the Kataragama Perahera is held in honour of the god Skanda. Kataragama Perahera is held in the months of July and August during the full moon. It features fire-walkers, fire-eaters, singers, musicians playing traditional instruments and performers showcasing a range of acrobatics; all this pageantry is centred around elephants dressed in clothing with ornate designs, lights and flowers.
