Koningsdad, better known as King’s Day, is one of the most famous celebrations in the Netherlands and causes the population of Amsterdam to double during this time. King’s Day takes place on the 27th of April, or the 26th if the 27th happens to fall on a Sunday.

During this time large-scale festivities take place throughout the country, including the emergence of a nationwide vrijmarkt, or ‘free-market’; this is where people take to the streets to sell a variety of goods, and the government allows this to take place on this day without the requirement of permits or tax payments. The festivities also include a lot of concerts and special events. Travel agents dealing with travel and airline ticket booking along the likes of macktrip.com feature a range of offers during this time.
