Koh Phangan will ban “Unfriendly Activities” which Hurt the Environment – Strict Environmental Policies in a Tropical Tourist Destination

If you’ve heard of the infamous Full-Moon Parties of Thailand then you’ve definitely heard of Koh Phangan. This island is one of the most tourist-centric landscapes the nation has to offer. Recently, authorities have implemented some strict ecological protocols to protect the area’s lush natural environments and the creatures that dwell within them.

These measures came in the form of several bans, concerning anchoring on coral reefs, fishing, sea-walking, and construction taking place on marine habitats. More buoys have also been introduced to restrict boats from anchoring at sea.

Entities such as Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas, an environmentally inclined Koh Phangan beach resort, are developing manners to reduce wastage and pollution, through means such as eliminating the use of plastic straws. In recent times, it has become very evident that increased tourist activity is having a serious negative impact on the island’s ecosystems.
