Malaysia to Grant e-visa to Sri Lanka from November – Strengthening Ties between the Two Countries

With the rapid economic growth of the island, and the increase in Colombo mixed-use development projects such as the upcoming One Galle Face, Sri Lanka has become a frequently visited destination for both tourists and businessmen. Therefore, for ease of convenience to all travellers, the Sri Lankan Government allows foreign travellers visiting the island for a short stay to obtain the necessary approval via the Electronic Travel Authorisation System (ETA). Complementing the ETA System is the current proposal of the Malaysian Government to offer e-visas to Sri Lankan citizens visiting Malaysia.

In a bid to strengthen ties between the two countries, the Home Minister of the Malaysian Government has confirmed that Malaysia is in the process of finalising an agreement to grant e-visa to Sri Lankan visitors. The agreement is expected to be finalised in November 2016.
