Maldives Recognized as Best Sea Destination at Italia Travel Awards 2018 – Making its Mark on the Italian Travel Industry!

The Italia Travel Awards is an annual event held to reward those dedicated to the travel industry in Italy using their expertise to the best of their ability. It is thought to be more like the Oscars of the travel industry and therefore is a ‘big deal’ for countries targeting Italy as a potential market. This year the award ceremony took place on the 24th of May in Rome, the venue being the picturesque Church Palace.

While competing with Polynesia and Seychelles, Maldives emerged as ‘The Best Sea Destination’ at the Italia Travel Awards for the second consecutive year. A number of 88,484 tourists were recorded to be from Italy filling up hotels like Niyama Private Islands Maldives and any other resorts in Maldives in 2017. This amounted to a 24.8% increase compared to last year. Therefore, Italy proved to be one of the biggest source markets for the Maldives.
