Nawam Perahera in Gangarama, Colombo, Sri Lanka – Elephants, Drummers, Dancers, Acrobats!

Similar to the infamous Kandy Perahera that takes place each year around August in Kandy, the Nawam Perahera is a bright and colourful Buddhist cultural parade that takes place right in the heart of Colombo during February.

The event is considered to be one of the most prestigious religious and cultural events held in Sri Lanka. Hundreds and thousands of people flock the streets of Colombo around the Beira Lake area to witness this special event, including tens of thousands of tourists who make their trip down to Sri Lanka during this very season.

Despite the large number of foreigners, one needn’t fear when looking for a hotel; Colombo seems to have an ever-growing skyline with numerous hotels opening up in the city, one such example being the latest addition – Jetwing Colombo Seven.
