One of the most anticipated annual processions of Sri Lanka; The Kandy Esala Perahera extended for 10 days starting on the 17th of August and concluded on the 27th of August 2018. The Kandy Esala Perahera also known as the festival of the sacred tooth is a ceremonious annual event celebrated in the historic city of Kandy. The festival is held to pay homage to the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha which is placed at the Sri Dalada Maligawa. As usual, this year’s event too consisted of many colourful events including traditional dances such as fire-dances, whip-dances and other performances. The spectacles of the events are the elephants that are adorned with lavish garments. Reports say that this year’s event had lots of guests who were foreigners.
