Paradise in Peril, Maldives Devastated by Coral Bleaching – Time For Change

Maldives’ tourism industry thrives from its wealth of nature. Mother Nature seems to have been extremely generous towards these islands. However, devastating discoveries have been made! In 2016, two thirds of the coral colonies in the Maldives have turned a deathly pallor. Certain areas have been affected more than others due to coral bleaching as are the findings by such reputed agencies as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Maldives Marine Research Center (MRC). However, the consensus is that the life of the corals and the oceanic beings that depend on its wellbeing are also under threat. Drastic moves are being made to change the situation and Maldives resort properties in the country such as Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort are getting involved in coral conservation as well.
