Phuket Governor asks for bars to close for national mourning – Thai King passes Away at 88

Phuket’s Governor, Chockchai Dejamornthan, made a public request for all places of entertainment to be kept shut down during the 14th-16th October 2016, due to the national declaration of mourning for the death of Thailand’s King, His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The King passed away on 13th October 2016 in the hospital, after suffering from several health complications for which he had been receiving treatment for almost a month.

Thirty days of mourning were declared as part of the mourning process, enabling all workers of the nation to be able to pay their respects to the late King.

Thailand, being a popular tourism hotspot however, will still be accommodating the needs of travellers despite the shutdown. Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas is just one example of the many breathtaking Phuket luxury resort options which will still be available to holiday goers even during this period.
