River Rescue Service for Loy Krathong – Assistance on The River of Kings

The annual Loy Krathong festival in Thailand is a popular water based festival that takes place around canals, lakes and rivers. Held on November 6th in 2014, the festivities took place in major cities such as Bangkok. In order to assist people who may have gotten into trouble along the Chao Phraya River on the night of Loy Krathong, a river rescue service was put into place, carried out by the Royal Thai Navy. A service that ran from 5pm on November 6th to 8am the following day, this rescue service operated at a variety of points along the river including Bang Na pier, Rama VIII Bridge, Phra Pradaeng district and the Phra Chulachomklao Naval Dockyard. Bangkok cruises were among the many ways people could see the beauty of this festival and operators such as Anantara Cruises provide excursions on Chao Phraya throughout the year as well.
