Russian and Chinese Markets Bring in Big Numbers to Thailand – Steady Growth in Tourism

According to an online article published recently by The Phuket News, Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has stated that the country experienced a growth in tourist arrivals; the 4.8% increase (3.7 million) that was recorded in January 2019 is in comparison to the same period last year. One of the key contributing factors was the growing number of tourists from Mainland China with 1.06 million arrivals in January this year which was up 9.3% when compared to January 2018.

Russia was the largest contributor to arrivals from non-Asian countries and registered 229,518 visitors in January which was an increase of 1.2% when taking 2018 into account. Island and beach getaways continued to be a popular draw for tourists who have the option of staying at budget hostels or luxury Phuket beachfront villas including the likes of Anantara Layan Phuket Resort.
