The project is facilitated by The Nature Conservancy, the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility with the partnership of the coordination unit of the Seychelles government. The project is expected to demarcate the areas where marine related activities can be conducted. Enticed by the stunning beaches and incredible biodiversity, tourists from all over the world visit the island nation of Seychelles. Resorts such as the well-known Berjaya Praslin Resort are located within easy reach of the beach for those planning to visit the specially selected areas once the initiative is completed. The project manager of Nature Conservancy, Helena Sims, stated that the government of Seychelles had previously set a goal in 2010 for the expansion of the protected area namely 50% of all terrestrial regions and 30% of the “Exclusive Economic Zone”.
