Sri Lanka Plans to Attract 1 Million Chinese Tourists per Year by 2020 – Encouraging Signs

Bearing testament to the island’s popularity amongst Chinese visitors, Colombo the commercial capital of Sri Lanka plans to attract more than a million Chinese tourists annually by the year 2020. In recent times China has become one of the country’s leading markets for tourism with visitors having the opportunity to embark on a range of Sri Lanka tours offered by tour specialists the likes of Connaissance de Ceylan.

In a bid to encourage more visitors, John Amaratunga, the country’s Tourism Minister was recently in China where he held discussions with tourism officials as well as airline representatives. According to a report on the Asia & Pacific Edition of the popular Xinhua online news site, Mr. Amaratunga held these talks as part of his visit to the Shanghai World Travel Fair where Sri Lankan tourism was further promoted.
