Sri Lanka Plans to Boost the Off-Season Tourism – A Plan for the Slacking Months

Sri Lanka is trying its best to work its way through the off-season months that hit the tourist industry here. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau has taken steps to gain more tourist arrivals and revenue during this period starting from this year. The first campaign will be implemented this year from September to November.

The promotion bureau has made its call for bids from advertising firms. The participating firms will have to come up with a creative strategy, media strategy, take up the task of media buying and monitor the entire campaign through and through. All this is budgeted by the government for 80-90 million rupees. China, India and the Middle-East are the main markets that the tourism bureau hopes to reach out to. According to the Tourism Minister, the tourism bureau is said to be cooperating with airline, travel agencies and hotels to come up with packages for a short stay. Hotels in Tangalle such as the well-known Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort will be benefited by this.
