Sri Lanka to target US$ 7 billion in revenue from Tourism by 2020 – Positive expectations for revenue from tourism.

Sri Lanka’s tourism revenue has taken an upward trend this year. Seeing the massive progress of the sector, the Tourism Minister of Sri Lanka, John Amaratunga told the media that the government predicts revenues above US$ 5.9 billion in 2018, US$ 6.5 billion in 2019 and 7 billion in 2020.

Furthermore, Kavan Ratnayaka, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority announced that the minimum room rate (MRR) for hotels will be removed temporarily allowing the market forces to set the price. Additionally, more Sri Lanka tour packages by agents such as Connaissance de Ceylan will be offered to foreign tourists. More touristy activities and events will be organized in Colombo as well to draw in more visitors to the city. The government has also come up with marketing activities that focus on big markets like China, India and the UK.
