In recently updated data for 2018, Sri Lanka showed an 11.6% increase in tourism earnings when compared to 2017. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, tourism contributed 4.4 billion US dollars to the country’s economy; this was mirrored in the fact that tourist arrivals in 2018 were recorded at 2.3 million which was up by 10.3% compared with the previous year.

The leading tourism generating markets for the country in 2018 were Germany, China, Britain and India; travellers had a range of experiences and accommodation options to choose from be it at hill country bungalows in Kandy or Tangalle hotels in the south coast including the likes of Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort. The tourism promotion office is targeting even more of an increase in 2019 and the expectation is for tourist arrivals to reach 3 million and for tourism to generate 5 billion US dollars.
