Sri Lanka Tourist Arrivals up 2.5-pct in August Driven by India – The Island of Many Marvels

The influx of tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka has been seen as a direct result of the increase in arrivals mostly from India according to statistics revealed by the state tourism office. Data shows that foreign arrivals rose 2.5% from last year to 190,924. Tourists from South Asia rose 17.1% to 42,649, UK, the largest generating market, was up 7% to 21,903, German arrivals were down 10 percent to 10,993, the Middle East was also down 12.9 percent to 16,339, and Indonesia rose 120 percent to 1,143 and Chinese arrivals were down 0.7 percent to 189,696 for the eight months.
