Thailand, Cambodia to boost tourism

Bilateral relations between Thailand and Cambodia run as far back as the 13th Century with many bloody riots and border disputes being recorded through time. But now these once arch enemies have joined their hands to boost the tourism industry of their countries.

Both Thailand and Cambodia, despite their age-old rivalries, lay claim to a spectacular tropical natural beauty with some of the most striking ancient Buddhist temples and Pagoda’s of South Asia, such as the sacred Wat Phra Kaew temple in Thailand and the magnificent Angkor Wat temple complex that is located just approximately 10 minutes away from the renowned Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa, a premier luxury boutique hotel Siem Reap.

So in a bid to increase tourist arrivals of both these beautiful countries, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Cambodian Premier Hun Sen has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cooperate on tourism during the Thai PM’s 2-day visit to Cambodia. Thailand is also making plans to improve the deserted 6km route that travels from the Thai border to Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh in order to reconnect the two countries.
