The Kalutara Bodhiya Celebrates Vesak 2017 in Style

Reviving every corner of the island with the soothing colours of lanterns, the excitement of Buddhist devotees of all ages and vibrant pandols, the Vesak season ended recently leaving memorable moments in the hearts of every Sri Lankan. Attracting many enthusiasts and devotees to Kalutara during Vesak, the city was engulfed in the spirit of the season amidst the many religious programmes and flamboyant decorations. Those based in a Kalutara resort during the Vesak such as AVANI Kalutara Resort had the chance to take part in this culturally and religiously significant event. The city of Kalutara is one of the most venerated places in Sri Lanka as the famous Kalutara Bodhi tree is believed to be one of the 32 Bo saplings from the well-known Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in the sacred city of Anuradhapura. A significant event in the Buddhist calendar, Vesak commemorates the birth, enlightenment and the passing away of Gautama Buddha.
