The Maldives’ UK Visitor Numbers Rise Past 100,000 – An Encouraging Upward Trend

Recently published tourist numbers from 2016, show that tourist arrivals to the Maldives from the UK exceeded 100,000. The official number of these arrivals stands at 101,843, which is close to a 10% increase when compared to UK arrivals in Maldives for the year 2015. In fact, the UK market is amongst the significant contributors to the tourism sector, with such arrivals making up 7% of the visitor numbers to the country. Tourists have varied accommodation options to choose from be it staying at a Maldives bungalow or villa by the beach or over the water. While established international properties like Anantara Veli Maldives Resort are already present, the development of new resorts and the Gan International Airport is expected to help increase the number of tourist arrivals from the UK even further.
