The Upward Trend in Tourist Arrivals to Sri Lanka – Further Improvement in the Tourism Industry

In recent months, tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka have been on the rise compared to the previous year. In July 2018, tourist arrivals reached 217,829 which is a 6% rise when taking 2017 into account. Growth has mainly been seen from the neighbouring country, India. During this season, Sri Lanka beach hotels the likes of Cinnamon Bey Beruwala saw an improvement in occupancy rates as well.

At the end of July, the country has seen a total increase of 13.7% compared to the same period in 2017. The bulk of revenue came from India which accounted for 14%. Next, China accounted for 13% and the rest from the UK, Netherlands and France. It can be said that this is the result of effective marketing campaigns that are being implemented this year in various selected target markets to improve tourism.
