Tourist Arrivals to Sri Lanka Break Record for January – A Bright Future Ahead

A sign that bodes well for tourism in Sri Lanka, tourist arrivals increased by 13% in January and this upward trend is expected to continue. Visitor numbers for the first month of the year were at 219,360 which is a record when it comes to arrivals in January. This fact is even more significant when taking into account the partial closure of the Bandaranaike International Airport due to renovations and improvements being made to the airport’s runway. The country continues to attract a wide range of tourists be it those on the lookout for budget accommodation or Sri Lanka luxury resorts that can be found throughout the island such as Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort. Significant highlights amongst the tourist arrivals in January include the contribution of the Scandinavian and Chinese markets.
