Tourist Islands Unite to Save the Environment – Protecting the Coast for People and Nature

Thailand’s coastal ecosystems play a significant role in shaping the physical structures of stunning coastlines. Three islands in Thailand, Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan in Surat Thani province have taken steps to ban malicious activities which harm the marine and coastal resources. Coral reefs in Thailand beaches are declining from multiple threats such as overfishing, pollution and the unawareness of tourists. Therefore, Marine and Coastal Resources Department has implemented measures to avoid feeding marine animals, catching fish and even touching coral reefs while dining in the sea. Among the 36 million tourists who visited Thailand last year, most of them have stayed in Koh Samui resorts and hotels since there are options to choose from such as Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort. It is high time to preserve the valuable marine and coastal resources for a better tomorrow.
