Tourists in Thailand told to behave as nation mourns revered king – Calling for “respectful behaviour” and “sombre clothing”

Thailand, popular for reeling in tourists for its beaches and party lifestyle amongst many other attractions, recently went into shut-down mode when its revered King of 70 years, Bhumibol Adulyadej, passed away at the age of 88. Home to several hotels in Silom, Bangkok , such as the Anantara Sathorn Bangkok Hotel, as well as to many others spread out across the country, Thailand welcomes over 30 million tourists annually. Tourism brings in around 10% of the Thai government’s revenue.

The monarch has been commonly referred to as the “Father of Thailand”, seeing as most people have known him to have been the king for as long as they have lived. The Prime Minister declared an unprecedented mourning period of one entire year and furthermore requested for no events to take place within the next month.
