Turtle Watching in Rekawa, South Coast – Main Season Draws to A Close

Exciting and entertaining, the turtle watch at Rekawa Beach in Tangalle, Sri Lanka has become a popular thing to do among local and foreign tourists, with the main season for this activity drawing to a close in July. Visitors are given the opportunity to observe species of marine turtles come ashore and lay eggs at the shore around the visitor centre of the Turtle Conservation Project and the Turtle Watch established on Rekawa Beach. Enthusiastic groups are led to these nesting sites to witness this phenomenon during the months between April and July. Those based in a resort within relatively easy reach of this beach, such as Surya Lanka Ayurveda Beach Resort, have an incredible opportunity to observe this unique natural spectacle along with experiencing traditional treatments of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka. Unlike some of the other turtle hatcheries in Sri Lanka, the Rekawa Turtle Sanctuary is renowned for protecting the eggs in situ in an undisturbed environment.
