Visitors to Japan set new record above 24 million – From China to South Korea and Taiwan!

Japan’s tourism minister Keiichi Ishii, recently stated that the country hit a new record of foreign visitors as compared last year’s number of 24 million. On September 15th, Japan hit a staggering 20 million and last week it reached 24,039, 700 according to the tourism minister. This was mainly due to the increase of cruise ships and budget airlines travelling between Japan and the neighbouring countries such as China, Taiwan and South Korea. A number of tourist chose to stay in Otaru. Accommodation was easy to find with options such as Grand Park Otaru and many others in the city. Chinese tourists were the highest visitors with approximately 5.56 million followed closely by South Korea at 5.22 million and Taiwan at 3.46 million.
