Bangkok welcomes tourists for a quarantine-free holiday – A long-awaited invitation

In the wake of the pandemic, Thailand imposed strict restrictions on travel; some thought it to be too strenuous, and they were right in their assessment. Before the pandemic, Thailand’s tourist revenue accounted for about 12 per cent of the country’s GDP. However, with the restrictions imposed upon foreign travellers, the Thailand tourism industry paid a heavy price with a loss of USD 50 billion in income.

However, with a view to reviving the tourism industry, Bangkok started to let in travellers on November 1st, provided that they have a negative COVID test –  they are exempted from the 14-day quarantine period and can go on to exploring the country as soon they receive the test results. This quarantine waiver applied to 60 countries, including European countries and the USA. The measure was put in place in order to encourage travellers to visit Bangkok in their thousands again. If the predictions are to come to fruition, Bangkok city hotels will be full to the brim, and places like Avani Atrium Bangkok will once again be at the highest point of demand.
