In June 2020, BBC aired more than 350 commercials of Sri Lanka Tourism as support to promote Sri Lanka in other destinations as a tourist-friendly country. They launched this comprehensive advertising campaign free-of-charge as a result of the long term relationships it has with SLTPB over the years. These commercials were run both on TV and digital media and have been viewed by many markets including South Asia, Asia Pacific, and Europe.
Officials believe that, with this initiative, travellers will be motivated to visit Sri Lanka once its reopened for tourists and then, explore the authentic places that the commercials revealed. They also believe that more tourists will opt for experiences such as surfing after this stressful period, and because of this Pasikuda hotels, the likes of The Calm Resort & Spa will reap more benefits in the future.
