As highlighted on the Khmer Times website in May 2021, Cambodia is hoping to welcome vaccinated tourists in the fourth quarter of this year. This was brought into the spotlight at the virtual Mekong Tourism Working Group Meeting which featured representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Asian Development Bank and the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). At this meeting, Cambodia also outlined its plans and strategies covering 2021 to 2025, to get the tourism industry back on track.
As part of a destination promotion initiative, Cambodia also launched a special campaign in June 2021 centred around 35 celebrities who have visited Angkor Wat; the list included Angelina Jolie, John F. Kennedy, Michelle Obama and Mark Zuckerberg. Angkor Wat remains amongst the nation’s most famed attractions in Siem Reap; best hotels in the area such as the property of Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas provide easy access to this site and will offer ideal and safe accommodation options when tourist arrivals begin.
