Chao Praya River to become national heritage

The Chao Praya also known as the Me Nam (Me – mother, Nam- water in Thai), is a mighty river that flows the astounding length of 372 km through Bangkok and then into the Gulf of Thailand. By embarking on a Bangkok cruise tour like the luxury Anantara Cruises, you can experience the beauty of this magnificent river that is also home to many freshwater tropical and subtropical swamp forests.

Thus, taking into consideration the importance of this mammoth of a river, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is making plans to list the Chao Praya River as a national heritage.

The BMA has carried out a study to determine how landscapes on both sides of the river can be improved. Based on the study, renovations are set to commence from the riverside areas around Phra Phuttha Yodfa Bridge to the Wasukri Pier. This project also aims to preserve the age-old lifestyle of the riverside communities, and plans have been made to build a bridge and promenade to accommodate the riverside residents and visitors.
