Miss Sudawan Wangsuphakitkoson, Minister of Tourism and Sports, announced on Tuesday, February 13th, that Thailand experienced a significant influx of tourists during the Chinese New Year festival (February 5th-11th, 2024), particularly from East Asia and Southeast Asia. Countries such as China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea saw increased tourist arrivals compared to the previous week.
The total number of foreign tourists in Thailand during this period reached 872,235, representing a substantial increase from the 102,227 tourists recorded the previous week, marking a 13.28% rise. On average, Thailand welcomed 124,605 foreign tourists daily during the festival. Even luxury hotels Chiang Mai including popular ones like Anantara Chiang Mai Resort have seen a boost in sales for the Chinese New Year.
Among the top five foreign visitors were Malaysia (125,686), China (194,275), South Korea (48,643), Russia (48,826) and India (36,793). This surge in tourist arrivals reflects Thailand’s enduring appeal as a preferred destination for travellers from various regions, particularly during festive seasons.
